Research Work on the Basis of Power Consumption Theory of the Mill

The ball mill grinding process is a granularity decreasing process, and the particle distribution is its technological index which determines the effect of floatation separation. For this reason, we mainly research the particle modeling of the ore grinding process. Speaking from the point of the modeling method, developing from the 1960s and 1970s till today, the models of the ore grinding process of the ball mill mainly include mechanism or experience model, high-fidelity model and the model based on the statistics.

Since the ore grinding work accounts for a big proportion in the ore beneficiation cost, and the energy consumed is the main cost of the ore grinding work, many scholars researched the relationship of the energy consumed and the particle decreasing in the operational process of the ore grinding machine.

However, the method based on energy consumption has huge limitations, and it is a very complicated function seeing the energy input as the ore grinding system. The rotary drum grinder will have to overcome the gravity and friction force and improve the media to a certain height, and when the media fall down, the energy will be transformed into motion energy, with which, the materials will be impacted and crushed. For this reason, the energy supplied to the grinding machine cannot completely consumed on the crushing of the particles, and due to the energy loss such as sound, heat, dynamics and static energy and the energy loss of the machine itself that cannot be estimated, the net energy value that is really used for material crushing is difficult to calculated.

It can be thought that the relationship of the energy consumed and particle decreasing is generally not suitable for determining the particle decreasing process. So many experts think that seeing the crushing effect as the result of the mechanical operation of the grinding machine to the ball and the materials will be the best. This mechanical operation consumes energy, and the particle decreasing is an indirect result of the energy consumption. The influence of the operational variables, size and rotary speed of the grinding machine and the media on the particle decreasing are the many factors that need research.
